In today’s currency it probably cost Paul close to 3,000.00 to write and send his Letter to the Romans. By the time Paul dictated the letter, and after numerous edits, the time it took Paul to craft Romans was also quite lengthy. Although Romans is not a theological A – Z of Paul’s theology, it has always been a central text to the church’s New Testament experience. It also holds a special place in Methodist history as it was in hearing Luther’s preface to the Book of Romans that John Wesley felt his heart “strangely warmed.” For the next 16 weeks we will be living in the 16 chapters of Romans. I encourage you to dust off your Bibles or charge up your e-readers as we prepare to journey through Romans where we will certainly be challenged and comforted by this letter that was written in the late 50s AD.
